E 'have the new volume of the series "book" of Lovecraftian Studies. This is an original text that enriches the limited canon of Italian studies at the Master of Providence, adding a new, unreleased piece critical analysis of "cosmic horror" Lovecraftian.
What is the horror in Lovecraft and, above all, what is its origin? And 'the theme of this work, which goes in search of the exact place of origin Lovecraftian horror with the purpose of considering visual interpretation to be concatenated to the Unknown, in Non-known . In this sense, the tales of Lovecraft can be regarded as an unconscious way that his characters do at a time of unimaginable horror. That is precisely the prospect that the issue distance comes into play: If, according to Lovecraft, "the horror is always closely linked to the unknown and the unusual", it is precisely this dimension of diversity, strangeness, he recognizes the fertile soil in which give life to its horrors, and from which to reach them.
This study tries to demonstrate, through analysis of three of his major works ("Dagon," "The Call of Cthuhlu" and "The Colour Out of Space") as the theme of distance respectively from reality, in time and space , represents a key element, the source and means used to convey the fear and horror in the work of Lovecraft.
The theme of distance is well developed according to three different sub-categories, each of which is three stories analyzed in a case in point: the distance from reality in "Dagon", the distance in time in "The Call of Cthulhu ", and the distance in space in" The Colour Out of Space. "Dagon," "The Call of Cthulhu," "The Colour Out of Space": three different stories for plots, settings, characters and themes but, Since three of the most significant works of the Master of Providence, enclose glimpses of the whole Lovecraftian poetry itself. And what test cases, there is no doubt that these short-stories have common elements, more or less easily be traced back to the whole narrative of the author.
