The new study

STUDI LOVECRAFTIANI 8

Novità in casa Dagon Press. E’ uscito infatti in questi giorni un numero tutto nuovo di “Studi Lovecraftiani”, il primo magazine italiano di saggistica e critica sul Maestro di Providence, che da questa uscita cambia formato e grafica e si evolve, da fanzine a vera e propria rivista, avvantaggiandosi della trade publications and becoming an elegant little book in paperback, very rich and varied content. More than 100 pages of interesting unpublished essays, articles and reviews about Lovecraft and his work, Lovecraftian news, and much more.
is the index of the contents of No 8:
- TRIP TO SALEM, HP Lovecraft . As part of the correspondence was never published in Italy, this fascinating travelogue of Providence unpublished writer tells of his journeys in 1923 in Salem, the city of Witches (who in his fiction would become the mysterious and terrible Arkham, the imaginary city its haunted New England). Here Lovecraft was able to visit the ghostly mansion linked to cases of witchcraft in 1692 ... and one of them in a meeting "thrilling" unexpected. Here, then, that, filtered through his imagination, this trip is transformed into a kind of fantastically dark story where the protagonist is the same HPL!
- Howard Phillips Lovecraft: The DARK ENLIGHTENMENT BEING, Umberto Sisia . The concept that is highlighted in this long essay, appropriately annotated, is that Lovecraft has taken in his short stories die attitude of the Enlightenment, but reversible, to demonstrate the futility of reason in respect of Chaos of reality. A piece certainly intriguing, and original in terms of criticism about the author.
- THE CORRESPONDENCE Lovecraft / Howard, Rusty Burke . The friendship between Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, creator of Conan the Texan writer and other extraordinary characters of fantasy literature, was able to develop at a distance, in a fascinating and dense that epistolary correspondence dipanò for over a decade. The American critic Rusty Burke, one of the world's leading experts of the author of Cross Plains, enlightens us on the exchange of correspondence between these two titans of fantasy literature, revealing themes, topics, anecdotes and background of a now legendary collection of letters.
- A FRIEND FOR BARBARO: MEMORIES OF ROBERT E. Howard, HP Lovecraft . Acting as a corollary to the previous part, are translated here for the first time in Italy, a series of letters of HPL in which the writer tells us about the character of Providence Howard from his point of view, describing his life, his personality, as well as his tragic death.
- MONSTERS, ADDRESS AND HISTORY: A READING OF HORROR Narratology DUNWICH, Luca Cesare Foffano . Inspired by the recent publication of the essay on Dunwich published by Dagon our Press, our partner Lucas Foffano, commentator of the scene just as sharp and fantastic Italian publishing, offers a witty review of the book at the same time, it is also a brilliant discussion which adds another critical piece to one of the most famous stories of Lovecraft.
- NEWS Lovecraft, and Andrea di Pietro Guarriello Bonazzi. Twenty pages of reviews, news, commentary, criticism and news from the world of HP Lovecraft. A breath-taking round ranging from books to cartoons, from art to cinema, taking into consideration all the new releases editorials, news, and everything that moves on the Italian and international scene in respect of Lovecraft.

Lovecraftian Tales from the Cthulhu Mythos: The debut of the series narrative Dagon Press

IN THE TEMPLE OF BOKRUG
Lovecraftian AND OTHER STORIES

Fabio Calabrese

The Heirs of Cthulhu (Solfanelli, 1990), Strange Days (Urania Mondadori, 1998), If Italy .. . (Vallecchi, 2005). While essayist, some of his writings on HPL (of which he is an expert and longtime scholar) appeared on "Yorick", "Star" (the Special Lovecraft, 1980), and in the series "The Cthulhu Mythos" of Fanucci. Of particular rilevenza is his essay "The Narrative of the Cosmic Mystery", a kind of manifesto of "cosmic horror" Lovecraftian in Italy. Calabrese has finally published in 2005, at the Perseus Books anthology Eyes Silver , where they collected his tales of science fiction. This is the first complete collection of his stories in the vein "Lovecraftian", for the most part unpublished, written over thirty years, we strongly request a collection, called, and wanted. A book that has already to his credit a small record: it is the first Lovecraftian anthology coming out in Italy dedicated to a single author! A real must, therefore, for collectors and book lovers of the Bard of Providence.

The stories included are:

"Being from the Deep ... A dark experiment, which aims to reverse the cycle of existence, reveals a further dimension that regurgitates an unspeakable horror ...

" Shadow from the Past" ... A Wallbrough Manor, gloomy mansion surrounded by perpetual fog, a ancient atavistic hatred awaken a curse ...

"The House on the Hill " ... In his villa dr. Fargo hides a dark secret. What relationship can there be between his curious library of arcane tomes and differing shades that move stealthily in the night ...?

" Island Dionysus " ...

Ring Out of Time "... Count Dracula prepares its umpteenth incarnation, getting ready to cross the ages. The Myth of Cthulhu merges with the Transylvanian Count of black ...

" Iblis " ... In the most remote places of ancient Sicily, William Marsh, a young scion of a family in New England around Europe to hunt for old legends, ancient ruins and dusty manuscripts in the libraries of ancient monasteries, he learns the importance of dark dreams, and their tangibility ...

" The House College Street " ... A Providence, from portions of Federal Hill, is an old house that is said to haunted by a dark presence. Decades after the events recounted in "The Denizen of the Dark" by HPL, there is still someone trying to learn their secrets ...

" In the Temple of Bokrug " ... A scholar of botany organizes an expedition to Borneo . In these dangerous and impenetrable tropical giugliano will find the remains of a temple dedicated to the worship of Bokrug millennium, the lizard-god. The expedition members will experience a terrifying experience, from which one can not return to the deranged mind ...

" The threshold "... The old abbey desecrated Compton Hill lies inside the portal to another dimension, and a world dominated by monstrous Aklo ...

" Principle of Induction "... Lost in a dimension dream, the protagonist faces, face against the tentacles, the horrible gods of the Cthulhu Mythos ...

forgotten ancient cults, ancestral curses, eons and countless universes, dreams that pierce the depths of space and time, gods and monstrous blasphemies, libraries banned tomes full of unmentionable. And again: prehumans abominations, temples lost in the dark jungles, cursed mansion in the dark moors or in inaccessible cliffs, the ruins of cyclopean non-Euclidean corners, remote islands inhabited by monstrous aberration, that wells regurgitate prehumans horrors, dark experiments aimed at discovering the secret of seniority, size and other dimensional dark chasms, drugs and wondrous balls of being prohibited ... These, and others, are the themes of the twelve stories collected in this book, drawing direct inspiration from inventions of Howard Phillips Lovecraft to update our times the "Mythology of Cthulhu", and reinterpret shaped with a unpublished scientific and philosophical vision that is embodied by the passions of the author.

As a special bonus and appendix, is added to tell a long afterword (" Lovecraft and I ") in which Calabrese recounts his adventure to Lovecraft, horror writer and reader, and tells "the stories behind the stories in this book. That, we point out, is printed in a limited number of copies, to enthusiasts and collectors, and is exclusive to Dagon Press.

STUDIES Lovecraftian
# 6 Winter 2008
pp. 72 - Euro 7.00

Summary:

- THE RATS IN THE WALL: A JOURNEY OF BODY BUILDING
Andrea and James Becherini Bencistà
The new essay by Andrea and James Becherini Bencistà ( authors Lie and Persecution in the horror of Dunwich , the book that launched the series "book" of Dagon Press) deals with one of the most representative of the production horror stories of HP Lovecraft "The Rats in the Walls." The piece offers an intriguing reading of the novel semiotic-psychoanalytic key in the story, which was originally published in the pages of Weird Tales (in number of March 1924), and also a possible hidden meaning to the elusive and invisible tenants living in the walls of the house De la Poer. It also discusses the socio-cultural contextualisation from which originates the story, which offer interpretation becomes "abyss of lack of communication" but also "sacrificial crisis" and a metaphor for breaking the individual control of the mechanisms that lead to violence. Here, then, that the text of Lovecraft opens and grows up to become an icon of any society "is always the risk of being engulfed by violence, di perdere in tal modo la propria specificità e di sprofondare nell’indifferenziazione naturale da cui si è sollevata”.

The third piece, written by Luke Foffano Finally, make a little 'criticism of clarity in one of the most discussed and controversial studies Lovecraftian: the writer's alleged involvement with the occult Traditional in Providence, which opens at this time off the beaten paths, penetrating into the darkest depths of esotericism and avoided more "hidden", that of Italian origin. And it does so with a long review, which is also an essay of rare erudition, of two books recently published by two small publishing houses specializing in esoteric texts.

Lovecraftian STUDIES # 7

Winter 2008 pp. 72 - Euro 7.00

Summary:

- UTOPIA IN FICTION AND FANTASY OF HP Lovecraft
Gilles Menegaldo
An important test of international criticism, presented here in the first translation for Italy.
- THE CHIMERA Dunwich and other anomalies: ASSOCIATED Cthulhu Mythos
Will Murray Will Murray
The American, noted expert on Lovecraft and pulp literature , examines critically those that are the basis of the mythological sources "Cthulhu Mythos" Lovecraftian, in particular the great influence of the Greek classical literature and folklore about some of the stories of the writer in Providence, then HPL influences, adapting them to reshape their personal vision. This essay appeared in Issue 8 of the original Lovecraft Studies.
- Azathoth AS THE WORLD - AND MORE THAN ANYTHING
Paul Monteleone
On the philosophical system is the essay by Paul Monteleone, which focuses on the figure of Azathoth, Lovecraftian version of universal chaos, and that appears cryptically in the sonnet of Fungi from Yuggoth that bears her title. Transcendental figure par excellence of the pantheon and nihilistic writer in Providence, Lovecraft nell'incoscio Azathoth emerge on the basis of his reading of Nietzsche's philosophical and Schopenahauer. Yet unpublished translation by Lovecraft Studies.
- FLASHES OF DARKNESS: AN EVENING AT THE THEATRE WITH Poe and Lovecraft
Louis Musolino

One of our new partner gives us a detailed review of poetry and even a play based on the works of Poe and Lovecraft, staged recently at the Milan theater Cabot Theatre Company Gianluca Frigerio. While the wings are moving, ethereal, like ghosts, the shadows of the two writers ...
